Cliff Durfee, RScP

It all started with my mother when I was about 5 years old. Each day on the trip to the post office she would say, "Okay, picture a parking place right in front." Cliff Durfee, RScPIt seemed to work. Later in college however, my math major, physics minor science background discounted much of that. After all if it couldn't pass scientific scrutiny it wasn't valid.

My experience with traditional religions troubled me. Some said dancing was bad, others said eating meat on Friday's was not good and the thought that there was a God in the sky judging everything I did compounded my challenge with church. So I put the subject on the shelf for years.

In 1978 I went to my first Religious Science church. I was finally at home! The founder, Ernest Holmes created something I could really get behind. The teachings we're devoid of dogma and doctrine and came with 10 simple principles that they asked to try out and KNOW them for myself-- not just accept them because they said so. I took classes and started doing Spiritual Mind Treatments-- the incredible 5-step prayer process that I was also asked to try out. (see the animated method I developed for Sunday schools at: www.livelovelaugh.com/praying) This excited my science background since I could practice on almost anything and everything and prove it to myself.

Time after time, I would see prayers manifest in my reality to my absolute amazement. I proved to myself there was a definite effect of putting thought into motion through realization of Oneness with God. It moved me from wanting to have faith that there was a God, to a personal experience of knowing God. I realized it wasn't the material things that manifested due to prayer that was important, it was the deep Spiritual conviction that it inspired within me. Miracles became a natural outcome along with an inner peace from realizing we are all One.

I obtained my first Religious Science Practitioner License in 1981. About that time I also enjoyed teaching 200 Sundays of Sunday school. Children are so very close to Divine Spirit it was actually a blessing for me. For about half of that time I was the director with about 17 teachers to train and support. I renewed my License in 2002 by taking all the wonderful Science of Mind classes again. Of course they are always different since they apply to your life with what's going on at the time. By the way, I feel that only 10% of the value in Religious Science is from Sunday service; 90% is from the incredible classes.

One of my greatest Divine gifts is creativity and I currently express this through by web site design (www.designaffect.com), my books (www.livelovelaugh.com) and my co-creation of a way for people to refer business to each other (www.myreferralclub.com).

One of the greatest under-tapped resources of Seaside is the wonderful Practitioners. Most people don't realize the incredible power of having a private one-hour session with one. More than prayer, Practitioners have been trained to help unravel unconscious beliefs or other pseudo limitations and support you through prayer in realizing more of your Divine Self and having it out-picture into your daily world. Most Practitioners believe in this power so much they also trade sessions with each other. I love what we do as Practitioners and am so grateful to my mother for getting me started so early in life. Though she had never heard of Religious Science at the time, she was half American Indian and I think she instinctively understood that we are all intimately connected to the Divine Creative Process.
