"Reverend Dr. Christian Sorensen to speak at the United Nations for the Closing Ceremonies of A Season for Nonviolence" San Diego, California:- Reverend Dr. Christian Sorensen, President of the United Church of Religious Science worldwide will address the UN audience celebrating A Season for Nonviolence 2001 at closing ceremonies on April 4th, 2001.
As one of it's core supporters and charter members of the Association for Global New Thought Advisory Council, Dr. Sorensen is to represent AGNT's role with a Season for Nonviolence.
A Season for Nonviolence was born under the inspired leadership of Arun and Sunanda Gandhi of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, and a group of ten ministers forming the Leadership Council of The Association for Global New Thought, the organization that convenes A Season for Nonviolence on an
annual basis. The program's purpose is to focus grassroots educational and media attention on the philosophy of attaining peace through nonviolent action as demonstrated by Mahatma Gandhi and Civil Rights Leader, Martin Luther, King, Jr. Launched at the United Nations in January l998, this campaign has brought forth substantive endorsements and commitments for the UN Secrtetary General, Kofi Annan, the U.S. Ambassador to India, the Director General of UNESCO on behalf of
its Culture of Peace and Nonviolence apppeal by the Nobel Peace Laureates, and Vice President Al Gore. In general Season has received written support of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama of Tibet, Coretta Scott King, Dr. Robert Muller and many other distinguished individuals from all sectors of the the world leadership community. Now in its 4th year, over 100 cities across the United States and the world have created educational and community action programs and events for youth and
adults in their local communities.
Dr. Sorensen will share with his UN audience some examples of the many programs that have been generated by New Thought communities around the country. These programs include radio and television broadcasts, PSA's and print publications at all levels from organizational newsletters, community press releases to mainstream public news media. City mayors across the counry have issued official proclamations and over 350 major peace organizations, religious, business, arts and learning institutions have elected themselves as official co-sponsors of the Season for Nonviolence Initiative.
